Stop pushing yourself out of your comfort zone
Jun 01, 2023"Push yourself out of your comfort zone"
Just because it's common advice doesn't mean it's good advice!
I'm all for pushing boundaries and love to play in the realm of possibility BUT constantly pushing yourself out of your comfort zone could be the reason you're feeling tired, overwhelmed, anxious, frustrated and highly emotional.
Pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone causes a stress response in your body & the sympathetic nervous system can be activated.
It can manifest in various ways including increased heart rate, rapid breathing, muscle tension, and other symptoms associated with anxiety.
You can also experience crippling self doubt, fear & procrastination as you try so hard to do what your body & mind is telling you is unsafe.
Now, unless what you're trying to do is actually life threatening you are perfectly safe but you're body & subconscious doesn't know that.
The fear of failure, for example, could be triggered in such a way that instead of achieving what you're striving for it brings forward all your self sabotaging tendencies in a desperate attempt to bring you back to what FEELS safe & familiar.
So, what I invite my clients to do is instead of working outside their comfort zone, work at the very edges of what feels uncomfortably safe for them.
When we work at the edge of our comfort zone, instead of completely stepping outside of it, we're pushing ourselves to do things that feel a little bit uncomfortable but still manageable & safe.
By doing this, we gradually expand the boundaries of what feels safe to us & over time we become less afraid of change and challenges because our comfort zone becomes larger and we become more adaptable and open to new experiences.
Which, in a nutshell, means we can achieve more of what we want without fucking up our nervous system n the process 😊
Dream big, take risks and live in the realm of possibility but remember that the only wealth you have is your health so don't fuck it up in the process 😘
